Thanks for your interest in joining Volunteer Build in Vanuatu to build a school classroom for V2 Life in Eratarp, located just outside of Port Vila. Fly on Saturday 8th of July 2023 from Auckland International Airport to Port Vila International Airport (or meet us in Port Vila on the 8th of July if you arrive earlier in the week for a private holiday before the build). A Volunteer Build team member will meet you at Port Vila International Airport and transfer you to your accommodation. You will have a day to explore Port Vila on Sunday. Building starts on Monday 10th of July. On Friday the classroom will be handed over at a dedication ceremony before a fun night at Friday Night Fire. Your flight back to Auckland departs early on Saturday 15th of 2023, or you can add on a 5 day (4 night) optional package from NZ$400 twin share which includes a 3 day (2 night stay) in beachfront bungalows on Pele Island and 2 nights (Sat and Tues) in Port Vila, before your flights departs early Wednesday 19th July morning.

Airfares

On this trip, attendees are responsible to arrange their own airfare from Auckland to Port Vila. You can arrive earlier or stay on longer than the official trip dates at your cost. A budget amount for airfare is shown as a guide.

Accommodation

Sharing twin rooms in apartments with swimming pool in Port Vila.

Catering

Lunches, water and fruit on building days is provided. There is a supermarket close by and you can self-cater other meals in your apartment kitchen, or join other team members for dinners at local restaurants.

Transport

Hired vans.

Building Contribution

NZ$1,000 per person to fund the building materials.

Vaccinations

You will need to consult your doctor, however common vaccinations required are Tetanus, Diphtheria, MMR, Hepatitis A, typhoid, seasonal flu vax, chicken pox (unless you have had it). Dengue fever, zika and malaria may be present in Vanuatu at times, so discuss use of DEET based repellent and malaria tablets with your Doctor. Remember it’s not just you who needs protection – it’s the local kids and families you interact with as well. If you do not wish to have vaccinations, then a Volunteer Build trip is not for you. If you are under the age of 18, your parents will be asked to sign a vaccination confirmation form for you before departure.

Visas

For NZ passport holders a tourist visa is given on arrival in Port Vila, Vanuatu (no charge). 6 month validity on passports is needed after departure. For other passport holders you may need to apply for a tourist visa before departure.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory and must include coverage for building and medical evacuation costs. Volunteer Build offers a policy through Covermore and a personalized quote will be provided after you sign up for the trip.

Trip Guardians

If you are under 18 years old, you will need to travel with a trip guardian who is 18 years or older. Signed parental consent documentation will be required to travel.

Optional Pele Island Package

We are pleased to offer an optional add on package for those that wish to stay on after the official build trip has been completed from Saturday 15th of July to Wednesday 19th July 2023. The package includes 2 nights in Port Vila hotels, plus 2 nights/3 days (L, D, B, L, D, B included) on Pele Island, a beautiful island approximately 1 hour drive and 30 minutes boat ride from the north side of Efate. Cost from $400 pp.

2023 Vanuatu July Trip. NOTE: By signing below, you are agreeing to abide by certain rules, and you are waiving certain legal rights. Please review the following language carefully, and make sure that you understand it, before signing. This Agreement is entered into on the day this form is submitted and received by Volunteer Build, by the undersigned individual (hereinafter referred to as “I” or “me”). For purposes of this Agreement, the “Applicant” has applied and been accepted to attend the 2023 Vanuatu Volunteer Build Trip. The Applicant is the same person identified as “I” or “me” herein, except if the Applicant is a minor, in which case the undersigned person is the Applicant’s parent or legal guardian. The “Trip” identified herein is the 2023 Vanuatu Volunteer Build Trip, to take place between Saturday 8th July 2023 and Saturday 15th July 2023. “Volunteer Build” as defined herein, includes Break Free Expeditions Limited trading as Volunteer Build, its directors, officers, employees, and agents. I have read and understand all of the information provided in the trip application and this Agreement. The information I have provided to Volunteer Build is accurate and true to the best of my knowledge and belief. Provided that Volunteer Build and agrees to permit the Applicant to attend the Trip, I agree as follows: I am a positive person and will be supportive of Volunteer Build in all circumstances. I will arrange travel insurance through Volunteer Build (including coverage for building work that the Applicant will be undertaking in Vanuatu) for the Trip. The Applicant is in good health, and I will advise you of any disability and/or pre-existing medical condition (including any mental illness) and any special dietary requirements for the Applicant in a letter accompanying this Agreement. Failure to disclose pre-existing conditions may result in the exclusion of the Applicant at a later date with no refunds of monies paid by the Applicant. I agree to have all vaccinations required for this trip, and before departure will return to Volunteer Build the signed Vaccination Confirmation Sheet. Payments are non-returnable and non-transferable should the Applicant not attend the Trip. I grant to Volunteer Build the right to use the Applicant’s picture, voice and/or testimony in any form of promotional or advertising materials. The Applicant shall abide fully by any country border control and customs requirements, and additional rules and requirements by other projects that we may visit. This includes but is not limited to giving consent for a Police Check to be undertaken whereby the information in this police report will be disclosed to Volunteer Build as it relates to the applicant and this application. The Applicant shall fully abide by all reasonable requirements and rules of Volunteer Build concerning the behaviour and conduct of the Applicant and all other persons on the Trip as they affect those persons on the Trip and the people of the country or countries the Trip visits. Volunteer Build may exclude the Applicant from the Trip and require the Applicant’s early return to New Zealand if satisfied on reasonable grounds that the Applicant’s misconduct or continual disobedience is a harmful or dangerous example to other persons on the Trip; or because of the Applicant’s behaviour, it is likely that the Applicant or any other person will be seriously harmed if the Applicant is not so excluded. The applicant’s parents & legal guardians shall be responsible for the costs associated with the Applicants early return and no refunds for the unused portion of the trip will be given. I acknowledge that all travel outside of New Zealand includes inherent risks, such as transportation failure, transportation accident, illness resulting from food-borne or water-borne pathogens, and even risks such as kidnapping or terrorism. Although Volunteer Build will take measures to avoid harm to the Applicant during the Trip, I acknowledge that Volunteer Build cannot and will not make any guarantees of the safety of Applicant or Applicant’s property. I release and agree to hold Volunteer Build harmless from all liability for harm to Applicant or Applicant’s personal property, resulting directly or indirectly from Applicant’s participation in the Trip, including but not limited to liability for harm or loss resulting from transportation failure, accident, illness, disease, kidnapping, terrorism, civil unrest or any other cause whatsoever, even if Volunteer Build is allegedly or actually negligent. Volunteer Build is not responsible for any additional costs which may be incurred by participants as a result of events which are beyond the company's control. This includes but is not limited to strikes, industrial action, weather or any other man-made or natural occurrence. Volunteer Build reserves the right to alter itineraries as and when necessary due to operational requirements, and to substitute comparable accommodation, transport and sightseeing services as necessary. I personally assume all risks and liabilities in connection with Applicant’s participation in the Trip and agree to indemnify Volunteer Build and liability which might be assessed against them as a direct or indirect result of Applicant’s participation in the Trip. If the Applicant is injured during the Trip and I am unable at the time to authorize medical treatment, I hereby authorize dental, medical, or surgical treatment, including but not limited to the administration of X-rays, anaesthetic, or anaesthesia, by any medical professional chosen by Volunteer Build I understand and agree that this consent is given to encourage Volunteer Build and said medical professional to exercise their best judgment as to such diagnosis or medical, dental, or surgical treatment. I personally assume the duty of payment of any physician, dentist, surgeon, hospital, clinic, or ambulance service and release Volunteer Build from any such duty of payment. In line with New Zealand Ministry of Health recommendations if I become sick within one month of arriving back in New Zealand I will seek medical advice from a Doctor or by phoning the free Healthline on 0800 611 116. It is important to tell them you have been outside of New Zealand recently. This Agreement is governed by and is to be interpreted in accordance with the laws of New Zealand. All provisions in this Agreement limiting or excluding the liability of Volunteer Build shall apply to the extent permitted by New Zealand law. For the purposes of this trip, I have appointed a Trip Guardian for my child if that child is under the age of 18 at the time of the trip departure.
